Singapore Art Week 2023

My project the Accidental Self was exhibited along with colleagues’ work from Singapore, the UK, and Hong Kong as part of Singapore Art Week at the NIE Gallery.

The Art of Creative Research features exciting artworks in a range of media, by fifteen international creatives from six influential Universities; The Education University of Hong Kong, the National Institute of Education (NTU) Singapore, and from the UK; the Arts University Bournemouth, the Royal College of Art, Homerton College (University of Cambridge), and University College London.

It is the first event in a collaboration that grew from a discourse about art practice as academic research, its nature and beneficial impact. The exhibition showcases and celebrates individual creative works, in a range of media, and additionally explores the impact that this creative practice has on enhancing the value of the student experience, on building connections between educational institutions, the creative industries, and local communities. The exhibitors share aspects of their simultaneous multi-identities as Artists/Designers, Academic Researchers/Scholars, and Educators/Teachers.

Description

“Between 6 to 15 January 2023, Singapore Art Week (SAW) marks its 11th edition with an array of over 130 art events featuring new works and transnational collaborations across the island and digital sphere. Emerging from times of turbulence, SAW 2023 represents the unity and pride of a diverse and vibrant arts community in Singapore. A ten-day celebration of Singapore’s vibrant art landscape, SAW 2023 kicks off the new year by charting new growths and building upon existing foundations. It spotlights new forms of visual art situated at the intersections of art and design, signalling the expansion of local visual culture alongside technological advances of our era. Exhibitions move beyond static showcases to become movable feasts roving across precincts, introducing art to new environments and audiences. In reconnecting with physical and multisensorial experiences, SAW 2023 presents opportunities to engage with materials such as ceramics, food and fabric. Our community and collective memory remains a key source of inspiration as we see artists value and preserve these relationships in their own unique, artistic languages. With an abundant offering of meaningful events, we hope this yearly season of visual arts will enrich and inspire you for the rest of 2023!To explore the full line-up of SAW 2023,visit artweek.sg.”
