HKIPF: Projections

The Gallery space was 1300sqft with the middle portion of the room occupied by layers of hanging acetate arranged in several rows that expanded in height and width further from the project at the back of the room. Visitors were forced to enter via these layers through gaps just wide enough to proceed in a non-linear path towards the end or side walls, where 5 light boxes lined the walls on both sides. A random selection of street sounds recording in places were the images were captured played on a loop along with the 45 projected images. Here the projections are shown alongside the actual slide images.

Local artist Queeny Lam commented, “Stunning. With the help of lighting behind lucite which the photographs are stuck to, the colors of these graphics are very vivid and surreal. The plastic sheet with images projected on them also is coherent with the slight translucent effect that’s present throughout the exhibition. A great translation of hong kong’s reality that rips the illusion of Hong Kong being a one-dimension high-tech business hub without any other facade to it.”
