Experiential Learning
Over the past six years I have taught a variety of visual arts courses including graphic communication, arts & human development, photography & moving image, honour’s projects supervisor, honour’s/capstone research methods, and the graduate courses contemporary digital practices and visual research methods. I have guided and supervised many honours and master’s students with socially engaged contemporary art projects.
I have led our study art abroad, experiential learning programs “Art Immersion” and “Regional Summer Institute”. These programs enrich student’s experiential learning through visits to regional destinations like Seoul, Tokyo, and Taipei as well as international cities like Montréal, Barcelona, and London. The students engage in intensive arts and cultural immersion with extensive visits of art museums/galleries, cultural and historic sites as well as planned workshops, exhibitions, and lecturers with partner institutions and host country colleagues. I believe these in-situ experiences add substantial value in contextualizing visual culture, art history, and image theory within contemporary social issues, and this is reflected in my student’s feedback over the years.
