Scott R. McMaster PhD, is a Newfoundland-born artist/researcher whose creative journey began with an old Ricoh camera and a passion for capturing the world around him. With no light meter and only his intuition to guide him, Scott embraced photography as his primary medium of expression, quickly honing his skills and developing a unique artistic voice.

He first came to Asia in 2001 and lived in Korea for almost a decade, Scott has now called Hong Kong home since 2017. This vibrant city, full of life and inspiration, has greatly influenced his work, pushing him to explore new themes and perspectives. As the founder of Neon Photography Studio, Scott draws from a diverse network of local and international talent to offer a wide range of creative services and perspectives.

Scott’s portfolio spans continents, with exhibitions across Asia, Canada, the United States, and Europe. His early work focused on abstract landscapes of waste, examining the devolution of man-made materials and challenging conventional notions of beauty and narrative. In recent years, Scott’s artistic exploration has expanded to include the rich tapestry of visual culture, particularly where it intersects with people, streets, and the often overlooked aspects of everyday life. His ability to find beauty in the mundane and tell compelling stories through his lens has earned him recognition on the international stage.

His recent accolades include being a finalist in the Kuala Lumpur Portrait Awards and showcasing his work at prestigious events like Singapore Art Week, Trieste Photo Days, Rotterdam International Photography Festival, Art Macau, and the Hong Kong International Photography Festival. These exhibitions have allowed him to share his unique perspective with a global audience, demonstrating his profound ability to connect with viewers and offer fresh insights into the world around us.
